I bought this old trunk from my 85 + year old neighbor. She told me this trunk had been in her family as long as she could remember.
The trunk looks to be the size of a footlocker, there is no manufacture identification that we can find anywhere on the trunk.
All the hardware is complete, but, there is no key.
All in all, I think the trunk was worth the $25.00 purchase price.
If anyone recognizes the trunk an knows a little more about it, please comment!

What you have is an actual steamer trunk. These trunks fit the specifications required to place under your bunk in your cabin on a ship. Many people think that any old trunk is a steamer trunk. You have a nice example of a generic trunk made as you say at the turn of the century. There were many trunkmakers at the time making a simlar type trunk so I would be difficult to find a maker. These are relatively easy to refinish and you would discover a nice pine body underneath the canvas if you so chose. Either way it is a nice trunk, and nicer still that it has the tray and the lithograph. Thanks for the post -- hope this helps...

Thank you very much trunkman, the outside material (green area's) is actually a metallic like tin material overlaying wood, I am betting your right on pine underneath the tin like material!
Again thanks for the feedback it's much appreciated!

northwestrelics: The 1902 Sears catalog devotes several pages of the catalog to trunks with illustrations-descriptions and prices-am almost sure you can find one very similar to your listed. The catalogs are becoming hard to find but there is some very good reproductions made in the 1970s that are quite good.

northwestrelics: The 1902 Sears catalog was the first of the Sears to start using a a few photos-Mostly in the faces of women and children-some of the illustrations were very accurate and some were terrible.Surprising the 1900 Montgomery Ward Catalogs are selling for a higher price than the Sears Catalog simply because less was distrubated.
