I found this lure (which I believe to be lead) with my submersible metal detector off the coast of Cape Cod in a very historical area. I suspect it's very old, but I've been unable to find anything that it compares to. It appears to be molded and has red glass eyes. As you can see the hook and the loop are missing. Any ideas, information, or suggestions as to how I can identify it would be greatly appreciated.

...this is unusual...would it be just a bottom finder or what could have been attached to the nipples end...maybe a big treble snagging hook? Will ponder this one.

Thanks baitman!! It looks to me that there was a big hook on the end since there is a little spot where it appears to have broken off. I would prefer to find some old coins or jewelry, but I was pretty happy to find this little guy.
      My favorite find to date.

I would bet it was a snagging rig with all lead and no apparent fins etc. We need to go to maritime and fishing museums in that area....I will put that on my list!
