I love Victorian Mourning Jewelry and this is a fabulous example from my past collection.
The highly evocative imagery with a heartwrenching mourning symbolism is that of a Sickle cutting down an English Rose.
This is the only locket I ever saw with this iconography and a wonderful rare example of Victorian Mourning Jewelry.
It is easy to imagine the meaning behind the image and to guess that this pretty locket was commissioned in memory of some young English Rose who had been struck down by the grim reaper and missed deeply.
Hope you enjoy taking a look : )
