I have only been collecting art glass for about a year now. I think it started with some really cool art glass ash trays that I picked up at an estate sale. I was falling in love. A couple of weeks ago, my husband and I went to an auction in Houston and they had some beautiful art glass. Being the newbie that I am to this world I wasn't even sure of what I was buying but I knew the pieces were beautiful. I ended up with a Heavy crackled Beranek vase for an insane price. I didn't know much about it so I sold it on Ebay and now regret that I didn't keep the piece. Today my husband and I went back to that same auction and guess what they had? The prettiest piece of Beranek that I have seen. It's a beautiful green vase with a white line going through it. It reminds me of a snake's skin. The top edges are scalloped and wavy. If you turn it over the bottom is clear and you can see the green glass just above. I love it and was able to win the auction on it for $10.00, yes 10 bucks. I have no idea what a piece like this could be worth but it looks beautiful in my curio cabinet. I would love for all of you to give me any information that you may know about this piece. I'd love to know the history and how old it may be. Please I welcome everyone's comments, teach this newbie a few things :-) Thanks!!!!
The label tells you that this vase was after the Beranek family took back the factory ownership after The Velvet Revolution (Czech: sametová revoluce) in 1989. The company has some really good catalogues on the internet.
Eg this one :http://www.refinex.cz/bg/pdf/old_catalogue.pdf
Your vase is not there but I will try and search further.
Thank you Vetraio50, I really appreciate your comments and the PDF of the catalogue. It was interesting reading and awesome to see the factory and the brothers pictures actually blowing the glass. Funny that my green/white vase was not listed there, but the earlier brown vase that I sold like a dummy is there. Thank you for helping me learn more about the Baranek Family!!
Check out these photos by Jindrich Parik of the Beranek Showroom in 2008!
