I would like to show one of my... had to haves!!

When I saw this triangular shaped milk glass vase I thought it was so beautiful the butterfly was another reason I loved it, but what really attracted me was the most was the shape and the pretty, colourful enamelling on the three sides, the front having the most detail.... it is so well done!

I love the way the bottom corners are rounded and doesn't sit on the surface, such a contrast to the straight sharp top rim.

Each of the three sides have minute applied 'pimples' that also follow the rim, then covered with a hand-painted stroke of gold paint, just a tiny detail! but adds so much! to the complete affect.

It's a wonderful triangle shape! made from a light creamy green milk glass, polished to a mirror finish.

I suspected it would be uranium glass when I bought it and was rewarded with confirmation when I tested it with a black light.

It's a nice height of 8 1/2 inches tall - just under 22cm and quite heavy! 2lbs 4.1/2 ounces or just over 1 kilo,

I hope you like it as much as I do and I am hoping someone can tell me who made it and how old, to me it looks c1900 but confirmation would be good.

    Thank you for looking.......:-)

1870's 1880's bohemian. maybe Harrach, maybe a company that did similar work to Harrach. But my money is on Harrach. I've seen very similar marked Josephinenhuette though.

      Wow, superb quality!!!!
No signs of it ever having feet is there?
    13. inky inky, 12 years ago
No I would say it never had feet and thank you it is a stunning piece of enamelled glass and I love it too!!....:-)

art of glass, actually good call. I believe it did have feet. Inky it would have had triangular ball feet. there is a large chunk of glass missing in one section where a foot would have been and it looks like there are depressions in the other two corners. here is an example of what kind of feet would have been present. http://www.thegildedcurio.com/item-560.html

To me it looks like one broke off forcibly and the other two were cut off.

That's very interesting, thanks heaps!.. do you think I should try and get it restored?
    16. inky inky, 12 years ago
And thanks to art-of-glass for noticing...:-)
    17. Greatsnowyowl Greatsnowyowl, 12 years ago
I don't think I'd bother. it displays nicely still. the only way to restore it would be to get some glass balls and glue them on and finding some that matched would be very difficult and then it would look awkward anyway most likely. I'd enjoy it as-is. :) It's still a great piece!

Greatsnowyowl...I'm so!! sorry that I have nor responded your comment and advise before now I have only just noticed it. It does display really well as is and if it was restored it wouldn't be same and probably not look quite right. Thank you!...:-)
