This (the middle taller one) is a very nice example of what Dr. Al calls Kralik "Sea Urchin" in his articles and on the web (probably here somewhere, but I haven't seen it yet). This very vase has been seen on one of those sites - I know because this site showed the bottom of the vase; and it has the same flaw! Well, now here it is back on CW Show & Tell. There is also an almost (maybe the same) vase in one of Miller's books. Just shows how a good vase can get around! This one is tall and beautiful, and better yet was not very expensive! What more can you ask for? Oh, and the other two are (left) Kralik "Cardiac" and (right) Kralik "Blue Striped" (I think that's what Al called it?). Enjoy!
Im still new at "art glass" but is the "cardiac" vase named that because it looks like a "biological" heart?
Yes, because of the tri-valve-folded top and the organic (pun intended) shape. The deep red ruby-glass and the silvered threading add to the illusion of blood in veins. The name (cardiac) as far as I know is only a nickname, and Krailk may not have ever used it. Does anyone know more about it? Dr. Al?
