THIS IS AN UNUSUAL ITEM I PICKED UP AT THE AUCTION IN A LOT BOX. THE KNOBS TURN FREELY AND IS MARKED IN INCREMENTS. THE LARGE KNOB TUNES FAST AND THE SMALL KNOB FINE TUNES. THE MARKING SAYS WAVE METER GENERAL RADIO COMPANY CAMBRIDGE MASS. TYPE 247-W. WAVELENGTH IN METERS. I TAKE IT TO BE FOR RADIO USE. LOOKS TO BE MILITARY IN DESIGN. ANYONE KNOW FOR SURE?

WHAT YOU HAVE IS A VARABLE CAPACITOR USED TO TUNE A RESONANT CIRCUIT. PROBABLY USED IN A GENERAL RADIO COMPANY TEST SET. THE MAIN KNOB WAS USED TO TUNE WHATEVER IT WAS CONNECTED TO. THE OTHER KNOB IS THE FINE TUNING ADJUSTMENT. IT COULD HAVE BEEN USED IN A MILITARY RADIO. THE GENERAL RADIO CORP MADE PARTS AND TEST EQUIPMENT.
