Another new wooden tank! The same Keystone that everyone knows for the beautiful pressed steel trucks from the 20s are the same people who made this quaint little tank. At the time, they are more well known for their ships (submarines, carriers, destroyers, etc), but they did make a few land based toys in the same charming style. It was one born out of wartime metal shortages, but they appear to have continued making wooden toys well into the 50s.
This was part of an "Exploding Fort" playset, where a wooden projectile would be inserted into the tube which compressed a spring, would get caught on the hook (see 4th image), and then could be shot at targets in a fort (which would trip springs that would blow the fort apart).
It's almost 6" long with neat details printed/painted on the sides.
