got this from the mother of a friend of mine
made by a small company called De Kat ( 1902-1918) from Bergen op Zoom. 17 cm high 17cm wide
Very light beige with a dark brown and 3 green dotts inlayed patern.
stamped and stamp inprinted (sitting cat on the stamp).
The designs of the company look like designs from chris van der hoef but if he worked for the company is unsure some say he did other say he didnt
Now this is really nice too!
Prachtige de Kat. Super model.
Magnificent design by v.d. Hoef !!
Yeah superb model! Yes v.d. Hoef had a cooperation with "de kat".
such a beauty!!! and very rare...
stunning!!
Govert-Marinus Augustine founded this family business in 1902 in the Bergen Op Zoom town. The De Kat workshop made art pottery with an Art Nouveau (Jugenstil) design and in 1910 C.J.Van der Hoef had a major contribution in design. However, when sales of art pottery slowed by 1918, the father and son Augustine closed the company.
I'm led to believe that plenty of their art pottery found its way to England although these days they are hard to find. They fetch a good price at auction houses like Christies where as an example, a small green jug with typical decoration fetched over 200 pounds back in 2013.
There is so little info easily available so by detailing this info, I HOPE it doesn't repeat previous posts on this site.
I would be happy to add a couple of photos of pieces I own but can't see how to add them !
