17" Doll, kept in my mother's cedar hope chest. Cloth body. Her dress is the original as it cannot be removed without cutting it off. There are no markings that are visible as you cannot pull her dress away to view the base of her porcelain head/neck area. There are no tears or worn spots on her dress or under garments. I am looking for some information on her. Her dress and body are in mint condition. Thank you
Hi Your doll is a 1880's wavy top china . Made in Germany . I can see if body is original which is important . Many companies produced these china's in Germany and they did not mark a name on them . She is fairly common to find china . So Not rare but wonderful piece of history . Love her !
Thank you for your information! Everything is original on her - but I do have a question - why is 1 hand porcelain and the other had crocheted? Thank you again for your response!
One hand was broke and some loving mother made her a new hand :-) It was not uncommon for these dolls to break hands or feet because they were china and would bang against something . Many times you find these on Homemade bodies from the era . You could order just a head and make body it was less expensive . Because she has china hand it was a factory body . Oh an "Wavy Hair China" Is her name . China's are named by their hairstyles .
Hope that helps she is solved and a nice treasure even with on missing hand .
You can actually buy replacement china hands but it is not same as antique China and it is pretty obvious to a doll person when a part is replaced .It would not decrease her value and a doll hospital could do it but it is not cheap unless they don't do it correctly by removing arm take out stuffing and put new hand in re stuff and replace arm . I would love her as she is :-)
She is sometimes referred to as a Low brow China but the have curls that come down much further on forehead than yours as a rule .
Thank you so much for your information. I really appreciate it.
Your welcome :-)
