thankx Sean.
Basically it is like a bottle cap for an air brake hose. It was placed on the fitting of a brake hose on a RR car or loco to seal it in case the "cock" or valve leaked.
If this seals anything, then it has to have a way to lock-down, which i don't see. To me it looks more that an opener for large mouth bottles, but what do I know.
railnsail is right! The gasket is missing, but the round "nipple" (on the chain side) is placed over the air line connector, then turned & "locked" into place with the "J" shaped protrusion (near the middle). NICE answer railnsail!
Its easy to see, that this is not easy visualize blunderbuss2! Did that make sence?? Ive never actually seen it being used, but that is what it is. The only ? is what holds the top (gasket side) against the coupler. Thank you for your interest.
Picture another hose with basicly the same fitting in the end they lock together with a twisting motion.
Actually, I can't believe that so bored that I am looking at all this stuff trying to find something of interest to me! I can't even bid on an item! Like: A hector of land, 3 copper bracelets & 4 goats for something of interest! Actually, it is a good pick-up line when trying to snake a guy's date. The times it has worked though, I regretted the making the deal. Well, I still have the water buffalo.
I kinda like your style blunderbuss2, sometimes the dullest things lead to the most exciting experiances...................................but not this time.
come on Kevin, you seem to be able to do miracles with your keyboard! (way more than most people can anyway!)
Wait a minute ... That wasn't you Kevin !!??
its a bird, its a plane, its KEVIN!
Oh Oh Oh I get it ! It's a secret ! I'll never tell !
they dont allow green glowing rocks in Texas hedgewalker, you know (kriptonite) . Thats why Kevin has'nt visited your post! His typing fingers became weak.
I'll put the lead shield up !
try to keep up eye.
This thread seems to have gotten a little out of control in my absence. I think adult supervision is needed.
I took the obvious course & Googled "pneumatic tools" with the part number thinking the obvious might give the answer. You got it, nada! Guess we are still looking for adult supervision but after a mental review of my friends, I don't see anybody who would qualify. This is actually interrupting my sleep & must have kept me awake a full 5 secs last night
Actually I think that "tit" on the handle might cam on a sloped part on the opposite face to give the leverage to seal the thing & of course it would need a gasket on the other end to seal.
Summing that up, I have no idea! (not even sure I care)
eye4, if you aren't helping, you must be part of the problem.
dont be jealous eye, just because blunderbuss is obviously fascinated with MY post. You'll get a chance. Just "click" your ruby slippers together three times and say "I want a real post!,I want a real post!" LOL
And don't hold your breath! Yeah, we are still looking for adult supervision! I'm going to be a fireman when I grow up! I'm 66 (act like 33 & feel like 99).
LOL blunderbuss, you fit right in with us!
mikie, is that good?
well, some may frown.
I had a dream about this thing last night!! This is an item that is placed, usually on the end of a a locomotive that is not being used to switch cars. Its purpose is to keep any air from the air tanks in the locomotive from leaking out, causing the air compressor to work harder to keep the air at a steady 140 psi, which it needs to maintain, in order to keep the freight cars at a required 90 psi. This item is placed in the "Gladhand" on the end of a hose under the drawhead by facing each other holding this and the gladhand . Make a fist with each hand and hold them in front of your chest. now put your thumbs straight up. Your two fists should be about 5 inches apart. Now bring your thumbs downward toward each other at the same time and thats how you put them together. The round part plugs the opening in the gladhand and the crooked piece is locked in behind a piece on the glandhand thats keeps the air pressure,in case of a leak, from forcing the two pieces apart. Iv'e got to quit eating spicy things right before I go to bed!! It makes me have STRANGE DREAMS !!!!!
Boy you have some pretty complicated dreams Musik :-) now the question is..... . is that what this is ?
Yes Mani on both counts!! I have used these for years!!
Well I guess that could cause you to dream of them if you used them . I dream about hospitals since that is what I did . Now I tell ya I had a dream a few nights ago I was out with Elvis ! That was a good one :-)
Nice solve by the way !
Thank You Mani. I never had the chance to go see Elvis. I wish I could have. Did you wake up SMILIN
