Hello,
I would like to know any information about this wood sculpture. My aunt is a collector she buys and trade, she recently move to the country side and in a way to help her financially I bought a piece from her home/store.
She was very found of this sculpture, and seems like she didn't want to let it go (I half believe her because she is my aunt but also a very good seller!) I end up paying $450 for it.
My aunt mention she got it at least 40 years ago in a trade show, she was not certain about the origin but believe it is from some part of the asia/pacific.
The sculpture is made out of one piece of wood, the woman is caring a basket in her back, maybe for rice? the dress looks like Indian vintage, and the painting is well coming off (probably and I hope for the years!)
The size of the sculpture is 18" hight, approximately 5.5" wide.
I really would love to know any information about this piece, it is original? Did I pay the right price? I was mock? or do I have a hidden gem in my home?
Thank you for your help!
Thank you Jim, I went ahead and correct the error. The sculpture is actually wood, (out of one piece of wood as you see the base of the sculpture, is not attached).
The basket is hollow, I will go ahead and take a picture of the back to show.
With this correct information maybe you can help me identify its origin.
Thank you for your post,
Regards,
Dalila.
maybe a hilltribe of thailand or laos? malay or philipino? the eyes and expression don't look particularly asian to me though.
Thank you for the notes "ho2cultcha", still trying to figure out it's precedence...!
