I think four posts in one day is a record for me, so my apologies, but you can blame Czechman. Oh, alright, I did tell him I had it, so it was only polite of him to ask me to post it ...
This is a Kralik knuckle bowl, as opposed to Welz like my earlier post (http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/57148-welz-knuckle-bowl). It carries a very old and tatty silver paper label which says "Iris Decor Bohemia". The Iris, as you will know, refers to the iridescent flashing layer over the glass which makes these pieces so hard to photograph. That is my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
The flashing is heavy on this piece and present inside and out. It makes the inside look orange, almost like carnival glass, but where it has worn away on the bottom inside you can see that the base glass is pearl white. That pearly layer has been almost entirely covered in mostly pink but some yellow spots – a colour combination we Brits call pear drop after an old fashioned sweet (candy). On top of that is a sprinkling of rock (candy cane) slices in red white and blue, reminiscent of targets. And no my photos aren’t getting that much worse, the targets are very blurred.
It is very hard to capture in a photograph the true colours of this piece, and the effect of the flashing, but I promise you Czechman, it is predominantly pink, not orange! The last picture is getting close to the colours. I hope you like it ...

I think that makes up for not getting time to post anything for 10 days - the itch is satisfied for now! Back to work ....

Well, Gary, I have been a bit busy. So much glass, so little time - and work and children keep getting in the way ; ) I do have a couple of other Iris pieces I haven't posted . . . but then there's some Rindskopf too . . . and there's a new piece of Loetz on the way. I think you'd better stock up on those matches! Best, Nicole
