Does anyone know what this cabinet is? The top slanted ends lift up for storage inside, and both sides have a door for a cupboard. It appears to be very, very old.

Unusual piece you have. I have no idea what it really is but it caught my eye. Do you know what kind of wood it is? Are you certain that it's old, for instance by history or was it sold to you as being old?? I mean no disrespect, but is it possible that it is 'repurposed' old lumber? Are you certain that it's old, for instance by history or was it sold to you as being old?? The reason I ask is it LOOKS like what was/is used to store root vegetables in, like potatoes/onions to keep them dry and in the dark. However, the doors sort of kill that thought.
Without more pictures/angles or more information it's going to be quite difficult for someone to help you unless you're lucky enough for someone to know instantly from looking at it, which is of course possible.
Looking at just this picture, it also looks as if it could be an old small double drafting-type table with storage underneath...maybe used in a school? It will be interesting to see what you discover about this piece! Thanks for your share! :-)

Ooops! Please forgive my horrible syntax and double post in that last comment! I have a terrible time typing in these small windows and sometimes lose my place. Please feel free to delete that comment.

It looks to me like a two-sided standing desk, used by draughtsmen or maybe clerks. I've seen old photos of these, if I come across something I'll link it up.
