On my website I've got a little section called the "Private Reserve". It features some of my most prized corkscrews that I've collected over the years.
Presented here is an 1888 Fairchild's Patent. This particular corkscrew is a "roundlet" type. It's comprised of 2 barrel casings. The outer one is a decorative 14k Gold case. The inner one has a locking mechanism and houses the corkscrew.
It's marked on the inner barrel "Pat. Aug 21, 88." and on the outer barrel "14k".
As I said, this one has a locking mechanism, where as most roundlets are threaded and screw together. This has a single pin on one side that is guided by a spiral grove on the other to lock the casings together. It's so smooth and very tight. Just perfection!
There are many other designs and were also made of Sterling silver.
If you’ve got one, let me know. I’d be interested in buying it.
Cheers
