This stein is believed to be German (german wording on stein). The lid opens and is made of what I think is lead. Its hand painted, with what looks like a German general on a horse (also the lid has similar). Its a family item and has been since the 1940's. The most interesting part of stein is when you open the lid raise the bottom to the light, a nearly transparent picture of a man and woman are holding hands. This can only be seen if a bright light shines thru the bottom of stein. I've never since this before, nor have I seen the figurine on the lid. Any help is welcomed. Thanks!

This is a reproduction reservist stein from post-WWII. Some of these were sold to the GIs as the real thing as Germans were trying to cope with the post-WWII economy as best they could. The stein is porcelain and the image in the bottom is a lithophane.
