there are so many great graphics in this ballet souvenir. i just changed out the photos to show a few more. unfortunately, there is one which has been cut up, so i am thinking of breaking up the whole set and framing some of them. they are back-to-back on the same pages, so i'll have to figure out a way to flip them away when i feel like it. there are also a lot of amazing photos like the second one above.

Serge de Diaghileff's Ballet Russe Souvenir - an original 1916 souvenir of this ballet. the wonderful illustrations are by Bakst. i've never heard of him, but i think i've seen copies of the third pic before. It's in excellent condition except for one illustration which has been cut up. it doesn't appear to be one of the really beautiful Bakst illustrations. I'd love to find out more about this. i got another ballet brochure for the 1926 production of Mecca in New York, but it isn't the same quality as this one is.

these were saved from the trash last night near my place. i also got some very interesting photo negatives from the 20s - 40s 0f the bridge under construction and some soft porn - gay and straight - but some very unusual stuff. i need to find out how / where i can get these printed.

this is the russian ballet brochure i'm going to take apart and frame individual images for. someone cut out an image in the back of it already [strangely, not one of the great bakst images, but a different one], so i don't feel bad about breaking it up. do any folks who collect paper have any thoughts about this?

here are the Bakst costume designs and graphics. his talent was unparalleled, imho.

I can only encourage everyone to visit the National Gallery of Australia site to have a look at the costumes from les Ballets Russes and to learn more about Leon Bakst!

Some of the original costumes seen in the illustrations above can be seen here:
