We brought this trunck at a yard sale...it did have leather originally covering it....we found some leather In corners...it is paper lines and has a tray with two side drawers and some artwork. We would like to know the history of it and a value to see if we got a good deal
That is a lovely trunk you have. Welcome to collectors weekly! Looks like an 1875 -1880's dome top trunk. The inside compartments look in great shape-- usually they are messed up or missing altogether. The latches are really nice. It is a little rare to have that type. Unless you can find a maker's label in there somewhere it will be hard to know who made it, as they were many manufacturers at the time buying parts from common sources. We do not usually give a monetary value on this site as it is subjective and not what we are about. Look in the classifieds or on ebay and you will see similar trunks and get a better idea of value from them. It is a nice example of an early trunk for its type. A great find! (looks like the wood could use some tung oil)
Thanks for the info....sounds like it was we'll
worth the $20 we paid for it. We will get the tung oil and continue our research.
The pictures are probably generic lithographs. And yes for $20 you did very well indeed!
