I have had this piece for quite a long time but haven't been able to find much about it. I found one once on the internet but haven't been able to find it since. I would appreciate any input on this item
Antique Porcelain Bavarian Plate w Roses-Gold
Signed: J. BRAUN
Thank you!
Very pretty, shouston! I love the design and colors. Is it possible for you to take a more focused or larger picture of the marks on the back? I downloaded it and worked with it but still can't tell what it is or what color from what you have posted here... perhaps a crowned "N" or entwined "HS" or maybe a crest?.. either green or perhaps blue? Someone will more likely be able to help you with questions if that information cleared up. Thanks for sharing it! :-)
I've tried and tried to get a better picture but my camera isn't that good, sorry. I even tried to search for the Bavarian marking on the internet and can't find it.
I tried to enlarge and sharpen it and this is the best I could do.
Hi, shouston. I understand about trying to photograph marks. It can be difficult, especially if you don't have a good macro setting on your camera or a good editing program to blow them up. Can you take a look at this mark and see if it's the same? I downloaded your picture and did a little tinkering and I 'think' it looks like this one. Let me know if it's close, right or completely wrong and we can go from there! Keep your fingers crossed. :-)

chinablue, it wouldn't give me access... so I couldn't open it. Sorry.
Sorry it wouldn't let you access it. I uploaded a picture of the mark to one of my items here:

It is the 3rd picture, in green with a crown and a crest. Could you please let me know after you check it so I can remove it from that item?
Yes!!! the one on the right is exactly it! Yay!
So what does it mean? lol
HUZZAH!! *LOL* It's porzellan tirschenreuth meaning porcelain Tirschenreuth. Tirschenreuth was a district/area of Bavaria. I found a link .. a huge one, I'm afraid, but it should help you a little. It had to be translated so it's a little stilted in it's language. If you read it, and google some of the other names found there, you should be able to get a better idea about your piece. Between the mark, and when the artist was working should put your piece sometime around 1910. I'm glad I could help! :-) Let me know what else you might find out about it!

I also have some pieces from this set. I found this page looking for information on it. I have a letter from my great aunt who gave it to my mother. In it she claims it was a wedding present to my great-great grandparents who came from Prague in 1866. I don't know the date of their wedding or if they were married in Czechoslovakia or in Chicago, but the pieces had to come from before 1874 when my grandfather was born.
That's really cool! Thanks for the information.
