Looks like she just made a faux pas or something. This 15" tall and very heavy statue has what i think are traces of an old, mustard paint and GREAT patina! Definitely old. even the undergarments are detailed underneath her, but the feet are broken off. I'm trying to make a stand for her so i can put her in a garden somewhere. Does anyone recognize her? i can't find a signature or anything. One of my neighborhood recyclers brought her to me a few weeks ago.
Is there a simple way to tell the difference between lead and zinc?
The easiest way to find out is get a lead paint check kit from Home depot. It has an ampule that you break to release the test fluid inside a swab type thing. If it turns pink it's lead or contains lead as in the case of paint. Or whatever the directions say, I have seen a few different makers. The test kit is relatively inexpensive. It also shouldn't damage anything, but I would try it on the bottom or some inconspicous spot any way, then simply wipe the spot clean with a damp cloth to remove residue that might cause corrosion later on.
thank you fossilhunter. excellent advice!
i finally figured out a way to display this sculpture in a garden which i like.
Looks like she is stomping grapes for wine in that first photo, she's lovely and would like her in my garden!...:-)
