Umberto Cacciarelli (Italy 1880-1910) Is this a print or an orginal?
I think it is a print. I had it re framed at a hobby lobbie and it is on a very thin cardboard like materil. They asked if I had insurance on it. I know little about it other than my mother had it in her house and I am 50 now and it is very old.
Oops. It is Actually Victor Cacciarelli (1800-1900) It is called "The Cardinal's First Visit". http://www.artnet.com/artist/663167/victor-cacciarelli.html
Thanks for info my print is not is full color like I found on internet. Is there something different about this one? Certain persons are colored and the rest is not.
Being that you said it is very old, I am guessing it is faded. Red fades the slowest, especially a bright red like that. I remember my grandmother had a print hanging in her living room my whole childhood and a few years ago got a new print of it and there were colors in it I had never seen.
Do colors fade from prints?
Yes. Due to sunlight, different types of glass, age. When you had it reframed did they give you a choice on what type of glass to get?
no, Actually my sister took it in for me. Does this have any value? Do I need to have it re framed again? I can't find anything on it.
I have not seen any values. If I am right about the fading, the damage has already been done. You might want to have it looked at and maybe reframed to prevent further damage. Ask about UV filtered glass, they should know what you are talking about. It would help to bring in the copy of the full color version.
They might just replace the glass for you.
thank you very much for your help.
You're welcome. Good luck!
