BOUGHT THIS AT THE FLEA MARKET THIS WEEKEND. APPARENTLY MADE OF GALVANIZED METAL AND VERY HEAVY. THE TUBE IS EMBOSSED U.S. MAIL. IT IS MARKED AS BEING MADE IN 1901. MARKED:Century Rural Mailbox Pat Mar 5 01 Detroit. IT ROTATES TO OPEN AND THEN ROTATES BACK TO CLOSE AND WEATHER SEAL.WHEN I GOT IT IT WAS FULL OF MUD DAUBERS NEST AND WEEDS.DOESN'T LOOK TO HAVE EVER BEEN PAINTED. UNUSUAL PIECE THAT CAUGHT MY EYE.

Its amazing what we can find sometimes. I would clean it with just hot water & keep a light coat of olive oil on it. Neat collectible, I'm sure is quite hard to find. Congrats.

Oh, and don't sell it. Now is not a good time for that, as prices are really down cause of the economy. Just a thought.
