The Guild Glass is the most famous Leerdamse wineglass. AD Copier designed this glass in 1930, in cooperation with the Association of Dutch Wine Merchants. The Guild Glass is completely designed for drinking wine as pleasant as possible. It was important for the stem to be high enough to be held between three fingers and the thumb and for the bowl to taper slightly at the top to ensure that the wine did not loose its bouquet.Since 1958 there is, besides a hand-blown implementation, a machined version of this service available
Later Copier developped it into a complete glass service adding a large range of other glasses it is still produced.
even in 1996 it was chosen by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for use at all official dinners of the diplomatic services abroad. The earlier ones were marked with a specially designed monogram with the letters VNWL to guarantee authenticity photo 3. When i was in hospital my co-workers bought me 2 old ones I broke one and a friend gave me a new one The one on the right on photos 1 and 2 is the old one and is marked the other not . the bottom of the chalice of the newer one is much ticker and the stem is wider.
Have used them for the last twenty years! They were sold at IKEA here in those days. I have never see marked examples, here in Australia.
Some books say the were marked till 1940 ( in the 1936/37 sales cataloque the big wine, small wine and the port glas ) are still marked )others say unknown
Thanks vlkma!
