You can slightly make out the train on the back. I'm not really sure what I have here. Someone please help shed some light on this for me. Thank you! I cannot open the back for some reason so I don't know the Serial Number on it, sorry.

You have a beautiful Elgin with a Montgomery dial. The back should un-screw. You can use a rubber kitchen jar lid opener or even a rubber glove to help unscrew it. Look at the back carefully and make sure that there is not a small "lip" for a case knife, which would mean that the cover is a snap-on/off. I am fairly sure that it is a screw-off.
ahhh ha!!!!!! It is a screw off. Thanks for that info. case number is 4951409 serial number is 37327181. Can you tell me what was special about this watch? from what I have gathered there are supposed to be a vary accurate time piece because the train engineers would have these, the reason they don't have a flip open case is because it would take to much time to flip it open and close when ever second counted, am I correct?
You have a size 16s. 7-jewel Elgin grade "291" c.1938. Elgin made about 1.5 million of this grade. It is not a railroad grade as it would have to have at least 17-jewels and be a lever set. It is still a very nice watch and very accurate. It cost about $15.00 new.
