The last of my weekend flea market finds - 9ne of my favorite early Loetz decors, marmoriertes glass was meant to imitate several varieties of colored stone - Carneol, Agate, Malachite, Lapis and Onyx, to name a few. Affordable examples can be found - they are not always associated with Loetz, although this one was. Harrach also produced this type of glass, and it can often be impossible to distinguish which is which. Earlier examples are found without a colored lining; this one has a a thin interior layer of white glass, which dates it to about the mid-1890s. For further reading, see Collectible Bohemian Glass, 1880-1940, by Robert & Deborah Truitt.

I really need to get more of these. I have focused on the later, art nouveau or art deco glass, and I have very little of their earlier glass. Very nice example.

Is this piece iridescent ? It looks it. I have stayed away from this decor because the pieces I have seen look more like marble and not iridescent.

No, I wouldn't call it iridescent - just glossy.
