    (2 items)

I remember in the early 1970s my Mom and Dad coming back from a trip to New Brunswick. They liked Antiques and looked for interesting items. She brought back 2 Chairs and we were not allowed to sit on them. In later years the Cat's slept in them and scratched up the upholstery, but they were comfy at least. She always said they were from the 1700s or early 1800s. Recently she gave me one, and she is about to give me the other one, which is different looking from this Chair.

In the 1980s a friend who visited us from France looked at them and said they were definitely not French ? .

so I guess Im looking for any answers as to what I have. How old is it ? Where was it made ? Does this have any value ? Is it worth restoring ? Any information is good, all is welcome. Thanks for your time....

    Regman.

I'm sorry for your friend to be wrong but I can tell you this is a French chair. I had to do research to figure out what kind mine was and stumbled upon your post. I remembered to come back after finding my answers since your question was unsolved. The style of this chair is a Louis XV chair and because of the scroll style cabriole style legs, that means it was built between 1715-1720. If you wiki the history of chairs, it will tell you that there were furniture makers in France at the time that were the only ones allowed to make these chairs. They would go to a house that commissioned a chair along with an upholsterer and together they would design the chair to compliment the boiserie panels that the chair would sit against. That is why there are so many different looks to this chair, but it is definitely a 1716-1720 Louis XV.
