I had this old clock of my aunts cleaned and repaired when she passed away and the clock repair man said that it was from the 18th century . I have looked and can not find anything about it. I would love to know if it is actually from the 18th century and should it be in a museum or tossed? I found it in the trash heap when they were cleaning out her old home.

Is there any way to look this clock up and find out more about it?
    5. Hunter Hunter, 12 years ago
not sure - there are a couple of clock experts who will hopefully chime in! give them a couple of days...

I looked and looked through art deco by New Haven and found nothing but found a very simular one in school house clocks from the late 1800's?

      Hi Nema,

I believe that Art Deco was circa 1920-ish give or take a decade.

You appear to have a model the New Haven Clock Co. called their "12 Inch Gallery" (School House, or Octagon Drop clocks had longer pendulums). If that is your model it is from the 20th Century, Circa 1929. The 12 Inch Gallery measures 15 inches in width with a 12 inch dial. It has a solid Oak Case with an 8-Day Pendulum Time-Only Movement. It originally listed for $13.30 in 1929 which would have been about $170-175 dollars today when adjusted for inflation.

If you do an internet search on "New Haven Gallery Clock" you should find clocks very similar to yours at any point in time.

As far as value is concerned, it probably would be most valuable as a family heirloom. In my opinion it would be a shame to "toss" it but of course, that's your call and you did already save it once. Might as well hold on to it now! :)
It's a nice looking clock with an interesting face.

Prices range widely based upon condition and features. These clocks were also manufactured as "Advertising Clocks" and those examples can bring over $250 in today's market. Your example would probably be somewhere around $60 plus or minus $20 in most markets although it could bring more at auction if a couple of collectors were interested in it. You can view recent eBay auction results (the last 90 days or so) at the following url:
      http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=New+Haven+Gallery+Clock&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=0&_okw=&_oexkw=&_adv=1&LH_Complete=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=200&_fpos=&_fsct=&LH_SALE_CURRENCY=0&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_ipg=50

Hope that answers your questions. If so, please indicate "Mystery Solved" on your listing's edit page. If that is not your model perhaps another collector here can help you. That's my best guess based upon what I can see in your photos.

      Regards,

      Bruce

Thank you so much Bruce. I will keep the clock as an heirloom. I could never do anything but keep it or give it to someone who would take care of it. Thank you for the info. Nema
