The old post disappeared for some reason after I posted the new photo I took when I found the cap a few minutes ago.

Hi Airfighter . The 2nd photo helps see more but photo's are still very very small to see any detail . If you use the edit on your post you can add and remove photo's and not lose the post . Not sure what you camera it set at but hopefully can get a larger photo . I know your trying and since first post was over rode I again welcome you to CW ! :-)

Your pilot helmet dates WWI era USA or if Japan they used these into WWII . US pilots did not like the earphones on these and by WWII the pilots wore head phones not this type of built in ear piece . It is very early and wonderful . I am sure some of our Military guys will pin down exact date . My Dad was a pilot WWII era . He did not use a helmet like this . You have a great piece !

I haven't seen a US military one of these with the "shoelace" back to it-- the ones that I have seen are all stitched, one piece.

This may be German made and used by Germans years 1912-1918 ? appx ??

Thanks Scottvez, Manikin, BELLIN68, and Packrat-Place. I couldn't find any pictures of a WWI German skull cap online to compare it to.

Does anyone know if it has any value?
    10. scottvez scottvez, 12 years ago
It is hard to determine a value until you know what it is.

I don't think it is WW1 either-- the integral earpieces date it to a later time period.

Also, I don't think that this is very functional. The ridges from the laces would have been very uncomfortable against the hair/ head.

      Thanks Scott,
Do you think it is military issue?
    12. Manikin Manikin, 12 years ago
Hi Scott is very good with military one of best on CW . I am thinking it may have been a flight training helmet so instructor could communicate with student ? Just throwing that out as a possibility .

      Thanks Manikin,
What era do you think it is?
    14. Kollector Kollector, 12 years ago
I have seen photos of these in use. Rubber hose ran to a horn on the instructors chest so that the instructor could talk to student . Pictures i saw were at Brooks AFB back in the 50's.

Post a link-- I haven't seen a "shoelace back" version used by US military.

I had a USAAF kahki cloth helmet wuth red rubber ear cuos,no earphones. very clean. red rubber ear pieces were getting hard. Went on EBAY for $435. A great syrprise to me. Buyer explained that they were used in south pacific very early. keep researching.
