My father was a Captain in WW-2. His unit first went to Alaska to fight the Japanese on Aleutian Islands, then went to Leyte Philippines, My father told me a shell hit directly on a bunch of American soldiers, Many just young boys, and many killed and wounded. He ran to help with wounded and as he was leaving to back down to his Company, he saw this, part of shell that killed many Americans, he kept it only because of the writing on it. When I was small boy on farm in Nebraska, I thought it looked like a boat or ship. Later my father was shot through the neck, but survived, he stayed in Army reserves and retired a Colonel. toracat I know this item is not worth anything but story is interesting!
Your father must have been one tough cookie! Thank you for sharing his service with us, and this remembrance of those who died fighting for freedom and justice. miKKo
Thank you MiKKo! toracat
Document the story-- put it in writing and store it with the shrapnel, so it is not lost to future generations.
Actual this type of war souvenir is HIGHLY prized and sought out by collectors!

I also have lots of photos from Aleutian Is. and Leyte, I guess his friend took them, and sent later, I never saw my dad take a photo in his life! haha toracat
When I was 7 or 8 I was pretending it was a knife and swinging it around, well there are many razor sharp points on this, I cut my hand in 2-3 places, and when I dropped it I cut my foot! My mom put away and I did not see for 6-7 years! toracat

Wow....I didn't realize that my post was going to stir up so many things. Again, I am sorry for asking to purchase your item. My father was wounded by shrapnel on Layte.....He is an 87 year old WWII Army veteran with a bronze star and purple heart. I am so very proud of him. I am a woman Marine veteran. Was a Sgt. stationed at MCAS El Toro, Ca. from 1974-1978. I don't want to make any enemies here....it was a mistake and I can only promise it won't happen again, ok? Now can't we all just get along? lol
Please keep comments on-topic, respectful, and free of solicitations to buy or sell.

Hi terrims! toracat here I am not mad at anybody! Welcome to the site! I was just wondering what was going on. No problem here, there are many things I would like to buy!, but that is why this is great place to learn with no buying. So Sgt Terrims thanks for your service! And your fathers also! Maybe they knew each other! Your father and mine! toracat
terrims,I for one did not see your offer to buy. As for as I am concerned, there is no reason for anyone to be upset here. The only reason that I responded as I did was the fact that I thought someone didnt like toracats post. I had no idea there was a post to buy his item. Welcome to our "Family"here. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Sorry about that, I just didnt know all the facts.
Thank you for you and your father's service also. I appreciate it. My father was in the 112th cavalry what about yours?

Guess they didn't know each other.....lol
I guess my comment must have been the one that started all this, I saw terrims request to buy, I reported it as I always do. I also commented that this wasn't ebay & that we don't buy or sell on CW.
My apologies to torocat & terrims, my intent was not to upset anyone, I just did what I thought was the right thing to do.
torocat I thank you for your post & sharing the story of your father. ( this was deleted for some reason)
terrims I hope you stick around & share a few things with us, it's usually not this dramatic.
We guard this site & it's members are like family & we quickly rally to their defence.

It's ok, David.....it was my fault for not reading the rules.....but now I know. I didn't even know about this sight until I googled shrapnel and here is where I ended up. I will stick around.
