This machine IS a Singer, but is not old. They are still produced with these very bright decals, in Asia and India, for the countries that do not have a ready supply of electricity. The serial number should be under the machine. It's not possible to date these machines with Singer website.

It is a hand crank and was sold as one.

Links above to the Singer Nostalgia machine, although I still feel that yours is an Asian made machine, they're probably much the same.

sewingfool I agree that there are older machines out there that are in wonderful condition. I can tell rom the photos that this one is not old - there are quite a few clues. Firstly the Red Singer S badge. The striped engraving on the faceplate and rear inspection, the lack of a serial number on the bed, and the round feed dog dropping knob - compare all these to the 'brand new' Nostalgia machine. The colours in the decals are also different to the original Sphinx. The gold look is much 'brighter'. I can't tell for certain whether this is a Nostalgia machine or if it's an Asian made machine, technically there probably isn't much difference. The serial number will be in the centre front below the bed edge.

Mr Wilson I just noticed this machine is missing it's spool pin. You should be able to get one from a Singer shop.

You see Sewingfool I did not pick it as a new machine just because it looks bright and shiny, there are many other indications.

SORRY FOR THE LATE RESPONCE, MY GOOD FRIENDS, BUT I CLEAN THE MACHINE UP, AND WENT OVER IT WITH A COAT OF WAX,AND SHE CAME OUT GREAT

IT IS A HAND CRANK- THE ONLY NUMBER I FOUND UNDER THE BOTTOM IS #83- AND #10 BEHIND THE STEAL PLATE ON THE SIDE OF IT

Mr Wilson I'm still intrigued that you didn't find a serial number on this machine :) The other hiding place could be right up under the lip where the machine sits in the wooden edge - you would nearly need to turn the machine upside down out of the base to see, perhaps with a torch (flashlight?) . Or, the Nostaligia machines have a metal plate fitted in the centre front below the bed edge, is there anything to show that this may have been removed?
