Rudyard Kipling Book From sea to sea Volume 1

A Book from 1899 by Rudyard Kipling. This Book is very interesting. It has a symbol in it that I know had a different meaning back then. Can anyone fill in the blanks for me? It looks like this is a number one Volume of two. Also, it seems there might be some non-authorized versions, as this one says Authorized Version on the spine. I am not sure.
