I recently bought these painted, sheet-metal dogs and they have really grown on me. the level of detail - even on the tiny ones in the 4th photo - is really amazing and very funny. Does anyone know anything about them?

each of the large ones has a hinged door somewhere. i think it's to put little candles in them or something? there were remnants of those little floating candles in each of them.

no. i like my candles in the open and clear - not jumping around in little metal dogs!

i was looking at my metal dogs the other day and the two in the last photo here don't belong w/ the other ones. i think that they are much, much older - like from the 20s or 30s. anyone have a clue?
