This is a Cadillac badged, Women's 26", early balloon tire bicycle. I believe it is a 1930's. Mfg. by Chicago Cycle Supply Co. Chicago, USA. Chicago Cycle was one of the most famous distributors of bicycles and supplies in the midwest. Springer front end. Tank with Horn button. The bicycle is all original. Original non-magnetic brass Cadillac head badge. Schwinn grips. Spring saddle with a good pan. The horse hair padding and leather skin are really worn.

My wife has a 1949 Cadillac (bronze tag) bicycle that she got for her 15th birthday. We still have it. It is a modified Schwinn ladies bicycle. From my prior research, I found that they were indeed Chicago based, and basically enhanced Schwinn's for resale. Hers still has the Beloit, Wis. 1949/1950/1951 license tag attached. She also has a picture of her straddling it at that time. It has the Tag; Inserted key lock (with key); Knee action (spring front fork). It is still original with exception for the seat & tires. It still has the schwinn name on the frame & the serial number on the hub. If you have further questions contact me.

As a boy in the 50's, my dad gave me his Cadillac bike. Most of the kids had Schwinns of latter yrs., but my 3speed was the fastest. I used and abused untile highschool when riding a bike wasn't cool. I rescued it from my brother in the 70's. did some research at the shop that sold it to my dad. My dad always said he bought it in '32 for $80. It was a "racing" Stram/Archer 3speed, strieght shift leaver on the crosstub, "like a floorshift". The shop said owner told me that during the depression Chicago Bike or Schwinn told all it's deallers to design their own model mainly to keep the men working assembeling bikes. The Oshkosh, Wi. dealler made up this modlel and had the Cadillac name put on it. That is some of the story, I'll be glad to add to it if anyone cares. PJW
