This piece was given to me by a wonderful 80 year old woman that lived down the valley from me 30 years ago when my daughter was born, shortly before Easter. I had always admired it and she said she wanted it to be my daughter's first Easter basket and filled it with some eggs she had colored for her. It has no markings on it anywhere. It is a high gloss delicate blue, with 2 roses with leaves, one on each side. I love the intricate design of the weaving as well as the color. It's about 4 1/2 inches tall, and about 8 inches across the top. I don't know if it's considered art pottery or not since that is not something with which I am familiar since I don't collect it as a rule. I would appreciate any information you might have as to the maker, type and age of this piece.
Hi, chinablue! Hope that you and Jimbo are well and joyous.
Most beautiful!! View looking down on it from above, one can see the intricate work - which is all crisp (not floppy) and perfectly balanced. Being a cherished gift, no doubt you love this for its sentimental value, but it must also give you great aesthetic pleasure to gaze upon it. Bless your kind neighbor, and the kind heart who has 'nurtured' it the 30 years since it was given.
Hey miKKo! Sorry I've been so lax about posting. Jim and I have been on the go so much lately. It's antique show/flea market time here and since he's feeling better, he's been wanting to go as much as he can. Thank you for the sweet comment about my little bowl. It really is a lovely piece and the woman that gave it to me was such a treasure. I miss her terribly. Hope all is well with you and ask that you forgive me if I am not as active on this site for the next few weeks as I have been in the past. There should be plenty of things to love and comment on once I get the time to go through everyone's newest posts. :-)
Hi, chinablue and jimbo! Many thanks for your most gracious greeting! Do please take care of yourselves, and best wishes for splendid outings among beautiful antiques! miKKo
Aww, thanks Bellin! I missed you too. Now that things are getting back to normal, with Jim back to working at night and no one sick I hope to see more of you and everyone else.. and all goodies I've missed. :-D
