i found this out in the woods here in the bay area a few years ago. it's extremely heavy and industrial looking. it takes two hands and a lot of effort just to pick up the cover. it may have been used in mining or some other industrial capacity. does anyone know what it is or anything about it? there's no markings anywhere that i can see. meanwhile, it's been repurposed as a water feature in my garden.

I'd say it's an old cooking pot. If the integrity of the pots bottom is still intact these old cast iron pieces can be revived and used again. If it's as big as you say and restored it could be worth some cash.

      thanks mrmajestic1.
i can't imagine that anyone could cook w/ something so huge and heavy. i'd love to see some photos of others this big/heavy which were used for cooking. the piece is solid and very thick - no integrity issues whatsoever.

the bottom part alone weighs around 80-100 lbs. the top part weighs around 40 lbs.
