I can't find anything like this shape in any of the Native American pottery so it makes me wonder if it may be from somewhere else.

Does anyone know? It is about 14" tall (sorry I'm not at home right at the moment)

    Thanks!

Weirrrrrrrd! I did a little Googling, it looks similar to the central and South American pottery I saw. Just type in "south american pottery" and see if you come across any similar designs or motifs.

i think it looks hopi or zuni - maybe old or not the best quality i've seen.

      maybe northern mexico?

I don't think its Hopi or Zuni, the designs are very very different and the clay is too, though the colors do resemble Hopi work. I've never seen any Native North American pottery that looks like this, I'd guess South American.

are you suggesting pre-colombian - like nazca? need more photos from different angles.

I am new to this site, I will post more pictures. I bought it from someone telling me it was Native American, but I didn't have a clue. (new to pottery). Since then I've bought some books and didn't see anything at all like it, so it made me wonder. Thanks for the comments. Sue

This is Berber pottery, from northern Algeria, made by the Kabyle women. I can't determine the age from the photos, however, since this type of pottery dates as far back as 2000B.C., and is still being made today.

i honestly did not think that this was south american. i've been collecting south american pottery for over 25 yrs now, and the only ones which i have seen which resemble this are ancient and even those resemblances aren't strong.
