There are 2 of these. They are about 18" long, 2 or 3 " wide. Black wood with cameos at one end. They look like large shoe horns, except that there is no curve in any direction. They are totally flat. Also look like giant book marks.

Are they page turners aka page cutters?

I believe that is a page-turner. People bring those things in our shop, they never know what they are lol. A lot of the older ones were made in sterling and ivory and some are very elaborate. The photo is too bright, what is the cameo made out of?

I don't know what the cameos are made out of. They are the typical woman's profile. What exactly would a page turner or page cutter be used for and did they typically come in pairs?

I think I have seen them in pairs before, don't know why you'd need more than one though. The name says it all, they were used to turn pages of rare and expensive books so they wouldn't get oils and grime from fingers.
