Qurious item here, we cleaned out a 2-car garage that had been rented for 20 yrs. to a gentleman who stored an antique car & misc. items. It was paid one year at a time,in full, faithfully . We recieved a call saying that they no longer were using the building, so off we go to see whats what. Mostly junk car parts, ect. but on the wall hung this.
At first glance & impression, spare tire cover comes to mind, but after a long thought, i dont think so. The dimentions are:
mercury mans hat length- 9"
glass diam- 16"
outside diam. - 24"
height - 3 1/4"
this is heavier than it looks, the "mercury man" is cast allum. , under the glass area there are traces of red paint. Three metal tabs hold the glass in place. My current opinion is it's a Mercury dealers plaque, but you tell me.
thank you ho2
thank you hedgewalker
thanks Sean, its one of those items you dont want to clean-up until you know more about it , like , what it is.
That is great I thought it was a photo of your logo picture in it . Looks like a hub cap to me but what do I know lol . I just know it is mighty cool !
thanks Michael
thanks Mani, i thought it was tire related to. but the glass cover over the mercury man kinda rules that out. Whatever it is its atleast 20 yrs. old, minimum.
thank you packrat!
Love the look of it, but I cannot find anything just like it. I thought it might be a salesmans award of some kind.
packrat, i think i saw the same items, but nothing as big or with glass. Im with you on the award/dealer sales plaque. thank you for taking the time and checking into this. Mikie
