Heavy Bronze. Has scale from 0 at the top to 9 at the bottom of the sight glass. Top unscrews and has a 1/4" npt threaded hole. The sight glass part unscrews from the body Just above the flare. There are three "Over-center type lugs that hold the body to the base. From the gasket and the material thickness it looks like it designed for some pressure. There are no makers marks on it of any kind. It is extremely well made and the tolerances are very close. the bottom does not show any signs of being over a flame. The local salvage yard did a test an determined it is indeed bronze.
IMO... I think this came from a Whiskey Distillrey. This was mounted upside-down (from the pic) to another pipe that has shut off valves on it. That would make the 0 on the bottom & the 9 on top. Lab tech's took samples from 1/4"npt. The pressure in the pipes kept the Whiskey movein.....
Problem with that is that the bottom "pot" is sealed ! good idea though it could be something used in that industry !
Hmmmmm, well that Blow's my idea out of the water, er-em shot glass! LOL
Question..... have U taken the bottom off? It just might have a clue inside!
Sorry when i said sealed I meant that there are no inlets or outlets other than the one one the "neck" you swing the three lugs out of the way and it opens right up.
Thanx !
OK, I get ya now... Hmmmmm.........
This looks like a 'Roll-o-meter' used for testing in the highway construction industry, check with you local D.O.T...... I know I've seen one before.
Thanx Pop_abides it is indeed a Roll-o-meter !
Thanx again !
