Got this great clock today. I have been told it is a French Comtoise (sp?) clock from about 1780 to 1790. Any information would be appreciated.

Yes, what you have is an old Comtoise or Morbier clock from France.
These clocks are very popular here in Europe.
There is an online comtoisemuseum (in German) and you can find it here:
      http://www.morbier-clocks.de/

      They were made from ± 1700 until ± 1920.
Yours is very old and in my opinion one of the most beautiful models.
