This bracelet was passed down to me from my Grandmother. It originally was passed down from her Mom then to her older Sister, then to her and then to her daughter, then to me. We know that it's approximately 50 or maybe even 100 years old. I've never seen anything like this anywhere, so I was wondering what the origin of this bracelet is.

Are you sure it is ivory? Looks like bone, which is much more durable. Baby bracelets are for protection and beauty.

could be bone would have to have it checked out but can't in TX or in CA and some other states... it's kinda illegal now according the animal rights peeps now.

I don't think the ivory issue is strictly illegal, If it is an item thru estate and has already been around for years, its perfectly ok for you to have...with that said..Im pretty sure the selling of it is an issue tho. Something like ...you need to have it looked at and basically appraised to verify its age, and of course , genuine ivory. Then get the ok to sell it. Good luck. Don't totally quote me..But Im pretty close, my mom has a few pieces as well, and we have discussed the "what if's".

Elephant motifs in stuff like this usually means ivory, and there aren't many animals with bones this large.

People always think ivory is like totally illegal to own or something, but its not.

Its broken in three places though, so the value is very low, if you can even sell it

I hadn't planned on selling it, because of family history... as in it belonged to the Byrd family. Byrd meaning relatives of the famous Richard E Byrd. Which after checking on ancestry.com he's actually my 4th cousin 2x removed. I was really curious as to how old it may be.

Your photos aren't good enough to tell you the age. Its nothing special though, people in India sit around making these things for tourists.
