This is an old military badge. Made of Brass with what looks like red felt on the front. Some kind of cloth material is on this but not sure what it is. I have no idea what era this is from or what meaning this has. If anyone knows please let me know. Thank you!
Hi, this is the great seal of the United States. The Latin motto "E pluribus unum" translates: "Out of many, one." See following link. If it also serves as a military medal, someone will come along shortly and identify it.

miKKoChristmas11, this was found with a huge collection of WW1 and WW2 items in a sealed chest over a year ago. I have done little research about it and figured this would be a great place to try and gain some knowledge on it.
Hi, toledotreasurehunter! Yes, you've come to the right place. CW people I have seen identifying U.S. military decorations/insignia/etc. include Militarist, scottvez, Chrisnp, AR8Jason, mrmajestic1. They're really great. I'm no help at all in military decorations, but wanted to get this started for you. Looking forward to seeing many more items from that sealed chest!!! : ) Regards, miKKo
OK, nobody's responded with better information, so here goes. miKKoChristmas is right, this is the Great Seal of the US, but this version is also used by the US Army in the 20th Century (Earlier versions didn't have the "Glory" of stars over the eagles head. Red/Scarlet/Crimson are the branch colors for Engineers, Artillery and Ordanance, although there is no other evidence this item is affiliated with those branches other than the color.
Beyond thoe observations, I can't help you
Crisnp, great info. I always learn something from you. Did not know about the stars and now have filed it in my brain. Thanks!!
I'm doubting this is an issue/uniform item too, Kevin. Not just the quality, but the prong attachments seem wrong. I wonder if it was designed to go on some sort of stiffened backing.
Wow, thank you everyone for the information. The size is 2 1/2 inches in diameter. I always figured since it was inside a box full of military items that it had to be military. Either way its a fantastic piece that I have appreciated since finding it. Thanks again!
