Another reason to change your routine!
Instead of my normal northern trip around the thrift shops of Sydney on a ”cheap all day bus ticket for seniors”, I went south! I visited twelve shops and found nothing but on the last Vinnies before home I walked in and saw this lustre vase in the cabinet. I already knew what it was but I needed to see if there were any chips and to see how much they wanted for it. Condition? Perfect! Price? Reasonable! ….. Sale? Sold!
I went home happy on the last leg of the trip with it in the bubble wrap in the shoulder bag.
The factory of these lustre pieces was the Kunstaardewerkfabriek St. Lukas. The factory dates from 1909 in the town of Utrecht by A. Enthoven and G.J.D. Offermans. They were part of the Dutch art nouveau movement called in Dutch "de Nieuwe Kunst". The St Lukas name comes from the painters, gilders and glassmakers guild whose patron saint was Sint Lukas. Offermans was the technical expert and Enthoven had the financial contacts to create and support the business. Metal oxides created a pearly sheen to the lustre and you’ll see predominantly yellow, blue and purple lustres with that golden sheen. The term used is “reflet métallique”. Each piece is triple fired. The better pieces are also decorated with naturalistic motifs of plants, insects and fish (which are really cute in that Dutch way)!
The factory lasted until 1923.

I now have two in the "K" colour: the turquoise.
Note the marks on the bottom: K = the colour and the shape is the other number, I believe. The small one (shape #98 ) I've had for a fews years now and the larger one (shape #67 ) is 21 cm or 8.3 inches tall.

No way! These days it's more at Vinnies. It was twenty. Mind you the top price I've seen here at Vinnies was a painting by a South African artist that was $2800, if I remember correctly. It sold too!
Outrageous!!!! The cheap treasure girl in me is offended for you!

But I think Vinnies are franchised here.
It puts another tone on it.
Even with the GFC I have decided to spend.

In Australia the Mondriaan pieces are very rare, but I have one which I think is number 57 in the Aardewerk in Stijl book by Titus M Eliens. "A vase from the north of Holland. It dates from 1929-1932. It was painted by JG van Vliet on a design by Elke Snel."

Yes and velsen vases are scarce and are influenced by Mondriaan.
Nice to see that other people over the world also collecting this nice Dutch pottery from art deco period!
