Another Monitor Top....Although reletively common, they have a classic vintage look, and this one is fully functional. I just completed this project, and took a few shots before it was transported to its' new home.
Very nice, If you need new floor pads are now available on Ebay.

Great, we have 3 monitor top refrigerators and love them. Most people don't even realize that these refrigerators are efficient also using 70 watts when running 12 to 15 minutes per hr. To keep it frost free have it shut off for 3-4 hours in the wee hours when it wont get opened this allows evaporator to defrost into the chiller tray below. Doray co. made an electric wall mount defroster clock back in the 1930s that you plugged the refrigerator into which would shut off the refrigerator between the hours of 1:00 am to 5:00 am to defrost. These show up occasionally on Ebay, I have three!

Are you in treatment for your addiction?...LOL. I think I've been bitten by the same bug! I'm curious to learn what temperature settings will be on the box when it is in day to day use. I re-insulated it with material that is light years ahead of the original cardboard GE used. Since it will live with a good friend, I will soon know those answers. I already have 3 'new' projects I will be picking up this week. One of them has that illusive chiller tray you mentioned. One of them has a hanging thermometer in a brass tube. Looks like it was either a GE promotion, or was a refrigerator thermometer sold separately because it has a hook to hang from the wire rack.....I can't wait to get started on them....
I don't treat my healthy addictions, I feed them. The settings will vary somewhat due to several things such as, outside temp.frequency of opening,condition of unit,door seal and cabinet insulation also accuracy of temp switch. The "CA" model as yours is should run at 38-42 degrees with setting at mid point. the "CA" unit should run for 3-5 minutes then off for 10-20 minutes. I have yet to change out the G.E. insulation as it works pretty well if in good condition as it.s a closed cell material unlike the fiberglass blanket material used later on although I'm pretty sure modern closed cell foam would be a better choice. You will want a chiller tray or equivalent in any unit in use otherwise defrosting and dripping from the evaporator will be a problem. I highly recommend nightly defrosting as before mentioned it well keep evaporator and temp control switch working properly and no messy build up of frost. Whatever you do don't pick or scrape frost from evaporator! you puncture that unit and you will get a dose of sulphyr dioxide that you and your neighbors wont soon forget.
FYI, This unit had corrugated cardboard insulation, what was left of it anyway. There were some top filler pieces of soft board (1/2" tripled) around the top which were visible when the upper unit was removed, but below them was the cardboard.
