So I found a picture of what is probably missing at the wad-of-tape- junction of the wires from the wall plug, motor and foot controller for my 1919 Red-eye Singer.
What is it? Is there an official name for them? Anyone have one?
Asking for a disc-shaped doo-dad does not get me too far :-D

I am looking at mine right now. It is hooked up to the foot control on my watchmakers lathe. One wire goes to an outlet, the other to the lathe motor and the third, to the foot control. It controls the speed of the motor. I hope this helps.

There is one on Ebay with a clear picture. 320971707576

The picture is someone else's junction. They have a similar motor and the same foot controller as mine.
So I need to be looking for a 'vintage wire splitter' to duplicate the doo-dad for my motor/foot controller?

Another thought is to change the wiring so I don't need that junction?
The ad I just posted shows no junction...the junction seems to have been wired into the foot controller?

Your 66 machine did not come with this motor . This was a kit that you could buy to put an electric motor onto a treadle machine . If you want to use your machine as an electric machine you can put any electric sewing machine motor and foot control on it . A newer motor would be much easyer to put on your machine and much easyer to find than what you are looking for . A belt driven motor is better than a friction drive .

The motor on the 66 Redeye that incurablecollector has, is actually a genuine Singer one, and I believe it would be unwise to change the motor. These friction motors were only sold in a short time frame in the mid-late 20's - before the newer belt drive type with the light was introduced in the 30's.

I am keeping the old Singer motor and foot pedal on this machine as they are so cool and add to it's appeal for me. I just want to get rid of the wad of electrical tape at that junction...it does not add any appeal at all :-)

I'm sure you'll find one - is there an antique home restoration place near you? they may have something.

There is one of these motors and foot controler at an Anitque Shop in our town , but I do not know what kind of a price tag is on it . If you want I could go look at it and find out for you . However I do know that the shop is a little high priced on some things .

Thanks DobbinDee but shipping an issue for trying to buy the whole motor kit as I am in Canada. These motor kits weigh a fair bit so it would add quite a bit to the price to sent it northward...

incurablecollector : Ok , I just thought it could give you some idea of what they are selling for .

Actually that would be quite useful information...especially if it had that same little circular junction. Thanks!

incurablecollector : I went to the Antique Shop a while ago and looked at the motor and foot control like yours . Well it is sort of like yours . It did not have the same little circular junction as yours is supposed to have . It just has a cord that the motor plugs into and then the foot control plugs into the wall outlet . This one was priced at $95.00 but is on sale at the moment and would be around $80.00 .The owner of the shop was there and he used to be an electrical engineer for the military . He said that he worked on it and it sort of works . He said that it is suposed to be a vairiable speed motor , but that part does not work like it should . I guess it just has one or two speeds . He also said that those do wear out over time . Anyway I just thought I would let you know how much it is . I think that is a bit high myself even on sale , but then I have never needed one .

Thanks DobbinDee. Likely the only way I will find that little junction piece is by finding a whole motor/foot controller with one still attached. Luckily the hunting is part of the fun with this hobby :-)

Yes you are right , part of the fun of this hobby is the hunt . I will let you know if I happen to run across a cheeper one with the part you need .
