Just got this thrifting with Sean...well we were texting and I kept sending him pictures.
Dorothy Thorpe has come back into fashion since the advent of the TV show Mad Men. Particularly the barware. Quite a bit of it is has a silver band or coating. Since the real stuff from the 50s has some age to it, and has probably been washed a million times, sometimes it flakes off. (or peals) I have had up close and personnel experience with this phenomenon. You can shine the silver up which looks pretty cool.
Now this handkerchief bowl is pretty unusual. I have not seen one before.
There are a few on line that are along the same line/look.
My big question is if anyone has a good tip to getting that dang sticker off without pealing off the silver. I can't soak it, as then the DT sticker come off. Currently I have a very damp paper towel on it...
Love the process more than the object. Many eyes, many minds!
I kept texting him pictures of the ugliest stuff I could find!
Leave it overnight covered with water?
Will that mess with the silver?
I will repost the mixed results.
Thank you miKKo, czechman, V and eye4
Thanks Scandi!
Thank you Phil! Hope you are doing well.
This is so pretty Amberrose! :)
Thank you VolDeNuit! She is a very bright piece. Hope you are doing well. I keep staring at perfume bottles and wondering...
Wether or not I should be collecting perfume bottles....trying not to.
Hola Sean!
Good lots of BBQs and not as much rain as predicted. You?
Thanks Petey!
Lighter fluid takes those off well
Yeah I passed a million of these darn things up when I was younger and didn't know what they were. A whole 12-piece set one time...
Ouch! I am sure I missed more than I want to know!!
