This mahogany desk won a gold medal in the Chicago World's Fair in 1893.
If anyone has any information, or has the desk, I would love to hear about it. The last we heard of it, was that it had been auctioned off in 1923.

I am the great granddaughter of Wm. O. Schwarzwaelder

I bought a house with a carved fireplace, told the owner went to the 1893 world fair, loved an artist, bought many items from the same person, the decendents still have a bedroom set. Two end tables, a dining room sideboard. I have the fireplace. But the desk the family lost in an auction. Nobody knows who the maker was, but was told they won gold at the fair. But they thought it was for the fireplace, not the desk. Maybe it was your great grandfather who was the artist.
