Once belonging to my Grandmother, Margaret Becker, who lived in NJ 1896-1983, this matching pair of Fostoria SEASCAPE Handled Preserves were kindly identified today (9/3/2012) by Bill Banks, author of "Victorian Opalescent Glass". In his prompt response to my inquiry, he remarked, "Your items were made by a company called Fostoria. They are no longer in business. This manufacturing line was called Seascape. Both of your items are called Handled Preserves. The company shape number was: (#2685). They were made from 1954 -1957. The Blue Opalescent color was called Caribee Blue. The Pink Opalescent color was called Coral Sand. They are valued today at about $40 - $50 each in good condition." My Grandmother's grandparents were 1849 German immigrants whose land around Irvington NJ, was known as "Becker's Woods"; part of that land was developed in 1887, known as "Olympic Park", which was in operation until 1965. With deep appreciation to Mr. Banks, my family now has the information about these beautiful pieces that were for years, an Unsolved Mystery!
