Well I need a lil help. How can I learn more about my collection. I am not getting any results. I would just like to be able to put make and no. and know if I have a great pattern. If it may be valuable or rare or highly sought after patterns. I ffound about 80out of 90 on ebay 4days ago and search them again and found about half of that. I know some of the pattern I have are 1950-1980 all sizes and I have mensa womans boys and girls. I have 2 sets of pattern that match .and from what I search they are just about my best. But I can't be sure bc I can't find alot of really great ones. I have simplicty, butterick, and mccall's. I have mccall's 5830 with set of 4 stuffed animals.simplicty patterns 9953 sets of bathing suits. Simplicty 4198 is costumes.simplicty 5163 is 22peice mens john weitz.now mccalls pattern 9758 is 1969 wedding dress patterns.mccall's 2529 I have 2of!!! Its child jacket, tops, pants bloomers and raggedy ann transfer badge.the oldest one I found with a date is 1956 mccall's 3774 childs dress and apron. I have around 5-10 patterns that look extremely old but no dates. Collection also included 8 patterns that had no envelope but patterns uncut I believe almost all the patterns are complete I just dont want to open and mess somethings up. But if my fellow pattern collector will plz resond with some insite im clueless
Generally, patterns aren't extremely sought after as collectibles. Of course, there are folks who collect and study different periods of dress and fashion, and do collect different patterns. Some sought after patterns are: vintage fashions from the 1930s & '40s, men's patterns, certain fashion highlights like Mexican embroidered jackets or 1950s iconic patterns like poodle skirts, etc. There might also be interest in early '60s fashions like Jackie Kennedy wore, or 'hippie' fashions of the late '60s, early '70s.There might be some interest in costume patterns, vintage crafts (like from the '30s-'50s), doll fashions (Shirley Temple dolls, Cabbage Patch Kids, Barbie fashions), etc. But these craft or doll patterns would have to correspond with current collectible trends.
Personally, other than the things mentioned, I don't think I've noticed any particular interest in patterns from the 70's or later. Perhaps others will stop by with a different opinion.
I agree with Stef 100% although my comment much the same was deleted by poster . We do try to answer you truthfully when asked . I suggested searching ebay for prices . There are collectors for patterns but specific ones . And usually the graphics on cover and doll clothes are best . PS I have 100's of patterns myself for woman, dolls and mannequin dolls .
I have a few myself, but I like them mostly for the graphics and vintage fashions. I collect a lot of ephemera and a few sewing items, and they round out my collections. If you love 'em, then they are an awesome collection! Like anything, collecting things because they might 'be worth something someday' is a gamble. I've got many boxes full of things in my garage I thought I might be able to sell someday (mostly collectible toys and dolls), and I've seen their value plummet. Some of my simpler, older things have retained or increased their value. It's really hard to know what will sell and what won't. That's why I now only buy the things I really like and want to keep.
