I don't know anything about pottery but came across this at an estate sale and took a shine to it. It measures 4 inches high by 7 inches wide at the bottom. Has very bright glaze and is marked, on the bottom, "Cape Cod Pottery" and a copyright symbol with the initials "W.T. 1947" in . I tried to find Cape Cod Pottery on line and had no luck. Any info will be appreciated.
This pieces was created by Walton Truran of East Wareham, Massachusetts. His pottery studio was on Route 6, which served as the main route to Cape Cod. He hand dug the clay for his pots in Sandwich. He and his wife Christine were the proprietors of Grey Oaks Shop, where they sold his pottery and plants starting in 1940. What began as a roadside stand evolved into a full scale furniture and gift shop that was was a well-know landmark for travelers to the Cape.
